Have you ever experienced falling in love with a skincare product at first usage, and falling out of it on the second try? Because I did with this product below. It’s the Skin Genie Apple Cider Vinegar Toner with Vodka and Witch Hazel that I bought a few months back.
The very first time I tried it, it was love for sure. The scent was fruity and therapeutic, and I’ve always been so soft for those kinds of scents. It was quite a joy using this because apart from the sweet smell, it was very hydrating and refreshing too. Although I must admit that I bought this primarily because of the claims that it can dry pimples because of the ACV and witch hazel ingredients.
Honestly, I didn’t notice any of those but since I had no active pimple at that time, I couldn’t really tell. All I knew was I loved it because it’s refreshing.
When I bought the second bottle, I was pleasantly surprised at the change in packaging. It became cuter and fancier, plus the smell was as good as I remembered.
However, after a few days of usage, I felt my skin getting drier and drier every day. And I was quite sure that this was what caused it since it was the only new product in my routine. Not only that, I started growing pimples too that became a horrible breakout. I had to consult a dermatologist because it was wearing me out.
Upon close examination, my dermatologist told me that my skin was extremely dry and asked me which products I was using then I told her everything. She immediately pointed out about the ACV. I was even trying to defend it since I’ve used this one before and had no problems with it but of course, she was the doctor so she knew better. I was advised to stop using this immediately and when I complied, my skin cleared out after a couple of days.
I’m not sure what happened and I felt bad because I really loved this one. Anyway, this was just my experience so if you are using this and are not having problems, keep going! After all, we have different skin types and unfortunately, this didn’t work out for me. I might still use this in the future, who knows?
