"This is the first complete translation into a Western language of Sou-shen Chi, a fourth-century Chinese collection of 464 extraordinary, fantastic, or bizarre items. The subjects of these brief anecdotes and narratives include natural curiosities, gods, religious figures, omens, dreams, divinations, miracles, monsters, strange animals, demons, ghosts, and exorcists. The stories range from sober reports of drought and misfortune to accounts of a fox transformed into a turtle, persons whose heads could take independent flight at night, a tryst in a tomb, and the marriages of humans with spirits." "Sou-shen Chi is the oldest, richest, and most consulted example of the chi-kuai genre, an important division of classical Chinese literature demonstrating features of narrative technique and ethereal sensibility that point to chi-kuai as the earliest examples of Chinese fiction. Of the three surviving versions of Sou-shen Chi, the 20-chapter edition translated here is widely accepted as the best representation of the work of its compiler, Kan Pao, the official court historian for Emperor Yuan of the Chin dynasty. The style of the writing is terse, almost austere, and it has qualities of documentary prose, a reflection of its common ancestry with historical writing. An introduction deals with the text and its background, authorship, contents, versions, and transmission." "Sou-shen Chi served as a model for subsequent collections and provided many basic plots, characters, and situations for plays, novels, and even poetry. The stories were widely known and became part of the body of allusions that literate Chinese knew and used in their own writings. For example, in the twentieth century Lu Xun retold, in extended fashion, a tale of magic swords that comes from Sou-shen Chi."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Tracing the origins, influences and development of falsetto singing in Western music, Simon Ravens offers a revisionist history of high male singing from the Ancient Greeks to Michael Jackson. This history embraces not just singers of counter-tenor and alto parts up to and including our own time but the castrati of the Ancient world, the male sopranists of late Medieval and Renaissance Europe, and the dual-register tenors of the Baroque and Classical periods. Musical aesthetics aside, to understand the changing ways men have sung high, it is also vital to address extra-musical factors--which are themselves in a state of flux. To this end, Ravens illuminates his chronological survey by exploring topics as diverse as human physiology, the stereotyping of national characters, gender identity, and the changing of boys' voices. The result is a complex and fascinating history sure to appeal not only to music scholars but to performers and all those with an interest particularly in early music [Publisher description]

The difference between a pastor and a lecturer is the word “supernatural.” Both the lecturer and the pastor stand before people to speak, but the difference in the both of them is the supernatural that accompanies the words of the pastor. It does not matter the size of a church, if it has a big cathedral without the supernatural, it is a warehouse. God told me many years ago that I am not a minister of information, but of the gospel. I have been called to preach the gospel, not to gossip. When a preacher preaches the gospel without power, he is a gossip. Without the supernatural ministry, every other thing is a joke. Do all you can to covet the supernatural in your ministry as a minister of the gospel.

A study on the supernatural is very broad; therefore, it is my goal to help individuals understand the supernatural from a scriptural perspective by defining the prophetic. In doing so, the reader will embrace the vast biblical extent of man’s interactions with God, explore various dimensions of the Spirit realm, and learn what it means to live under and open heaven. In fact, this book will cover over 21 ways in which God may choose to interact or communicate with us as believers and much more. This is a book of both information and impartation. The pages of this book will literally come alive, as there have already been testimonies of various God encounters from those who have previously reviewed the writings contained. You will not only read this book, but you will experience what you read, and the things you learn will stir up the gifts that are on the inside of you. Get ready to take the limits off of your life. Get ready to be accelerated in the prophetic, because God is about to blow your natural mind with a supernatural revelation. I reiterate that this is not merely a book. This is an impartation.
