Schon lange erforschen Wissenschaftler die Komplexität der Ameisen und deren Problembewältigung anhand von Computersimulationen. Bei der Suche nach Baumaterial bzw. Futter lassen Forscher die Ameisen Hindernisse überwinden und Höhenunterschiede bezwingen. Ein weiteres Experiment ergibt, dass die Ameisen sogar im Wasser überleben können. Wirft man die sechs Millimeter kleinen Tiere in das Wasser, können diese „dank der Kraft des Kollektivs“ überleben. Schnell verhaken und verbeißen sich die Tiere im Wasser ineinander. All die beschriebenen Strukturen und architektonischen komplizierten Verbindungen finden sich schon längst nicht mehr nur in einem Ameisenhaufen im Nachbargarten. Ganz im Gegenteil, es stellt sich die Frage ob wir nicht tagtäglich mit solchen Strukturen konfrontiert werden bzw. ob nicht auch die Menschheit gar in einem Superorganismus lebt. Deborah Gordon bezeichnet, wie oben bereits ausgeführt, die einzelne Ameise als „dumm“. Der Ameisenstaat an sich, charakterisiert sie jedoch insgesamt als äußerst „intelligent.“ Ameisenstaaten sind ein perfekt organisierter Superorganismus. Diese Arbeit hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, zu untersuchen, ob sich der Mensch mehr und mehr dem Verhalten einer Ameise annähert. Ausgehend von der Diskussion um das Verhalten von Ameisen soll nun im vorliegenden Buch das Verhalten von Menschen untersucht werden. Agieren Menschen in den Neuen Medien heute in der Form eines Superorganismus? Zunächst werden im Allgemeinen die Begriffe Superorganismus und Kollektive Intelligenz zu erläuterten versucht. Anhand von Protestbewegungen in der Gesellschaft werden zudem die Entwicklungen innerhalb des sozialen Systems zur Kollektiven Intelligenz erarbeitet. Die Entwicklungslinien von Hedonismus und Individualität hin zur Rückbesinnung auf das gesellschaftliche „Wir“ verdeutlichen dabei den Paradigmenwechsel von der Geniekunst eines Einzelnen hin zu einer gemeinschaftlichen, kollektiven Intelligenz. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit auf das Thema Superorganismus im Web 2.0 gelegt. Wie funktioniert der Superorganismus im Web?
