For tests after July 1, 2018. Here's the "Easy Way" to get your Technician Class amateur radio license. The book is new so check the reviews for the previous edition. The test is multiple choice and the other study guides take you through the pool of 424 questions including all four possible answers for each question. But three out of the four answers are WRONG! You are studying 1,272 wrong answers and that is both confusing and frustrating. The Easy Way focuses only on the right answers with hints, cheats and explanations to help you pass. It is all Ham and no Spam. The first part is a narrative of the author's ham radio experience. Every question and answer is woven into the story and identified in bold print. The second part is a 40-page Quick Summary condensing every question and correct answer for easy recall. Which would you rather study: right answers or over 200 pages with three quarters of the answers wrong? Instructors: This book is perfect for review or weekend courses. Have the students read the narrative before class, then go over the concepts with them rather than slogging through all those wrong answers. You'll be done in no time and the students will be fully prepared to take their tests.

During the first fifty years of the twentieth century, ham radio went from being an experiment to virtually an art form. Because of the few government restrictions and the low monetary investment required, the concept of ham radio appealed to various people. More than just a simple hobby, however, ham radio required its operators to understand radio theory, be able to trace a schematic and know how to build a transmitter and receiver with whatever material they might have available. With the advent of World War II and the increased need for cutting-edge communications, the United States government drew upon the knowledge and skill of these amateur ham radio operators. This book explores the history of ham radio operators, emphasizing their social history and their many contributions to the technological development of worldwide communications. It traces the concept of relays, including the American Radio Relay League, from contacts as close as 25 miles apart to operators anywhere in the world. The book highlights the part played by ham radio in many of the headline events of the half century, especially exploration and aviation “firsts”. The ways in which these primarily amateur operators assisted in times of disaster including such events as the sinking of the Titanic and the 1937 Ohio River flood, are also examined.

The contents of this book are mostly aimed at the amateur radio beginner and aspiring ones. Therefore, this book provides answers to basic questions like: What is the best HF antenna for my needs and location? What type of stand-alone antenna tuner should I use and which should I avoid? How can I hide my HF antenna from the neighbors and still get acceptable performance from it? What about lightning protection? This book will supply immediately useful answers to the above questions and many more. A properly designed and installed amateur radio HF antenna system can potentially make the humblest ham radio equipment perform like stations worth thousands of dollars. We are confident that the antenna experimenter will find the information given here priceless. Furthermore, any ham radio operator, armed with the information this book contains, will become a much better informed buyer of commercially made HF antenna systems and accessories. This special compendium edition is published in response to ham radio operators who wrote to ask that all the basic information, on and related to amateur radio HF antennas, be made available in one book instead of four, arguing that it would be more convenient. The author and publisher agree. Therefore this edition contains the complete four-book series on Amateur Radio HF Antennas published by Claude Jollet, VE2DPE.

This book is intended for Amateur Radio Operators, Short Wave Listeners, and anyone interested in radio as a hobby. It includes sections on how different types of software defined radios work, the advantages of using them, and how they are tested. It also covers future trends including the development of Direct Fourier Conversion. There is a big section with tips for PowerSDR users and sections about other commonly used SDR software, plus a comparison of the basic specifications of 65 different SDR receivers and transceivers. The book is not a textbook or a reference book. It is written in an easy to read conversational style. I explain the basics without getting too technical. There are no pages of software code or complex mathematics. I find that simple diagrams can often make things easier to understand so I have included some helpful drawings and photographs. The book contains sections on:* What to look for when buying an SDR* What is different about SDR?* What computer skills do you need?* What is digital? - a brief recap on digital theory* Definitions of software defined radio* Generations and types of SDR* Are SDRs better?* Future trends* Common questions about SDR * SDR software on the PC* Audio connections for digital modes* SDR for shortwave listening, CW, digital modes, contesting, interference monitoring, EME, microwave, and satellite operation* SoftRock, Genesis radios, RTL dongle, FUNcube dongle, USB connected receivers, USRP, Noctar, HackRF and Blade RF* SDRs with knobs* On-board or external DSP?* FlexRadio Systems transceivers and SmartSDR* Apache Labs ANAN transceivers and PowerSDR* cuSDR, KISS Konsole, SDR#, and GNU radio software* I and Q signals, Quadrature sampling, Direct Digital Synthesis, Direct Fourier Conversion* The ADC, The FPGA or microcomputer, Server / Client architecture, FFT magic, DSP, Panadapter and waterfall displays* Radio performance testing* Catalog of Software Defined radios - a comparison of 65 SDR receivers and transceivers* Glossary of abbreviations and acronyms* List of drawings and images
